Less Driving, More Benefit

It’s been too long since I had time to update my blog…

Let me tackle now about the health benefit of driving less.
Surely, I love to drive. There is no doubt about it! Its just that I tried to watch the news a while ago and I was something stricken with the thought that I’m one of the main contributor of the damaged brought upon into our surroundings. Im not saying as if we should not drive at all because its one of those crazy stuffs you’ll never hear from me, it’s just that if only we could lessen our driving then we could somehow help our environment.

We don’t need any statistic to know that there are millions of vehicles traveling our street each day which may lead to pollution, noise, injuries and congestion that has already reached insufferable level as of the present time. In view of this, the moment is indeed the perfect time to rethink of the means by which we can make use of the roadways and how people can start practicing deeds which will benefit them on later days.

Study shows that there is various health problems associated with car-centered communities. I am really bothered by this thought. I guess if the study was given way back then I could easily shake the issue out of my sleeve but not now. NOT now that the effects of pollution is highly seen on our environment. Ever heard the news about global warming and all those stuffs? It never fails to send shivers to my blood.

  • Motor vehicles are among the main source of air pollution which can lead to 1700 premature death and 6000 hospitalization each year due to air pollution.
  • World Health Organization suggest that people who live near busy traffics corridors possess 50% greater chance of incurring problems brought by pollution.
  • Some of the health conditions that could probably be suffered by people are asthma, reduced lung function, acute bronchitis, respiratory and cardiac problems, cancer and various others which may lead to reduced life span.

In Atlanta Georgia in 1996 where there was a noted decrease in people using cars, study shows that there were also lesser children who were brought into hospitals because of asthma. In my own opinion, lessening our car usage may also help boost up physical vigor. Why? Come to think of it, if we stop riding on a cabbie then we would have time to walk and run which are among the best form of exercises ever! And when they are active it will only result to less chance of suffering from stroke, heart disease, colon cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and many others. It can also be a source of peace of mind. Just think of how much we would enjoy the idea of lesser traffic. People will also begin to become closer with one another. Ask your family or friends to join your for a walk. The idea is surely thrilling while you can also help save the environment as well as benefit from it. In fact, the WHO suggests that every people should at least bike or walk 5 kilometers a day.

There will also be a reduced traffic injury. Just switch on your television or flip the pages of your magazine, everyday you will see someone who had encountered road mishaps. Statistics says that almost 60000 traffic related injuries occurred in the year 1995 to 2005 only. You can surely prevent this from happening to you if you ride less.

I promise myself as much as possible I’ll try to lessen my driving…
